Debut Carbon EVO
The Debut is already close to perfect, especially when it comes to price/performance and the materials used for production:
-We already have a carbon tonearm – the rest uses aluminum or even cheap plastic
-We already have a 100€ cartridge – the rest uses 30€ or even lesser cartridges
-We have a heavy MDF chassis 8x lacquered or with real wood veneer – the rest has lightweight cheap plastic or particle board chassis with plastic veneers, a lot of air enclosure
-We already have a motor suspension – the rest is screwed, or even worse glued in
-We already have a semi-symmetric, excellent sounding and wonderfully crafted phono cable – the rest uses cheap cables that look like you can rip them apart with your bear hands
-We already have a one-piece tonearm – the rest has a glued together tonearm with many small plastic pieces
-We already have a 1,2kg heavy platter – the rest uses a 300g plastic platter
-We have a power generator board, producing the cleanest power for the motor, resulting in the most accurate and stable speeds – the rest just takes power directly from the wall
1) New platter with damping ring
Our old platter was heavier than anybody else’s. But because of the metal it was resonating. Our TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) technology now helps to damp it completely and also increases the weight to 1,7 kg. Because the TPE is mounted on an outer ring, the moving energy will also create a flywheel effect. The result is an even quieter and noiseless operation and less wow and flutter - more stable speeds.
Note, that speed stability was always close to perfect because of our expensive AC motor synchronization (or in other words the built-in power generator board, as mentioned above). Cheaper alternatives are no power generator board or even a cheap DC motor. But DC motors result in extreme speed variations and need to be readjusted all the time (for this reason you will find access to speed control fine-adjustments on almost all DC turntables – it is an often overlooked and not talked about fact, that you need to readjust those speeds constantly, if you want accurate speeds!)
2) Metal, height-adjustable feet:
Better stability – easier setup.
That was one of the only real drawbacks of the old Debut Carbon, as heavy-duty feet and a perfectly level turntable are essential for real high-end sound.3) New motor-suspension:
Motors vibrate, that is true for any motor, and therefore they must be suspended and isolated from the turntable plinth.
Our old suspension worked perfectly almost all the time, but we have improved it to work even better. We used our technology and experience gained from past suspensions and high-end turntable suspension with more advanced TPE damping and high-mass sandwich constructions to come up with a new solution for the Debut Carbon Evo.
Expensive but effective.4) Electronic speed control as a result from increased customer feedback and demand for this feature. 9 inch records and high-quality 45rpm records are getting more popular and more common due to their superior sound quality. The speed control switch is moved to the bottom of the plinth, to keep the clean look the Debut is known for.
Again, we have set the bar for an affordable high-performance turntable that also looks and feels incredibly luxurious higher than ever before. We are excited to win more customers for our hobby and passion: analog music listening.
PS:
There will be no other Debut Carbon Evo versions with built in phono stage, Bluetooth, or anything else. Our philosophy is:
1) Why build features that 90% of our customers are not using, but have to pay for (nothing is free eventually)
2) Why include a mediocre phono stage, BT, USB output, etc. in a close to perfect turntable?
At that level of performance, it is always the better and more economical choice to buy a separate phono stage, BT sender or USB phono stage module which are available from Pro-Ject in many different levels and feature variety.
Reviews
"Launched in 1999, the original Debut turntable set the bar for starter vinyl packages. Twenty-one years later and the 'Carbon EVO' raises it to pole-vault standards..."
"Here we witness the genius of a company that can do this for a sane price, giving you a made-in-Europe turntable/arm/cartridge with pedigree and performance so far beyond its market category as to embarrass the rest. Recall that the cartridge alone is worth more than 20% of the entire purchase price. Whoever combined and 'voiced' the three elements of turntable, tonearm and cartridge has displayed system-assembly genius." HiFi News go to review

"If there's a design parameter more crucial than a hi-fi component's ability to hold our attention and enable us to feel things, I don't know what it is. The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO does this consistently, emphatically, at an attainable price."
