Shunyata GEMINI Model-8 Power Center

A High-Current, High Performance Power and Ground Hub Solution

Based on the success of their Altair Grounding system, Shunyata has introduced the Gemini Power Center to include grounding terminals for individual components.

The GEMINI Model-8 delivers unprecedented performance and value by acting as both a high-current power distributor and an advanced ground noise reduction hub.

  • Patented NIC™ noise isolation chamber technology that provides a common grounding point for the system, extending noise reduction to all system components. This dual-plane approach to noise reduction addresses both AC noise and minimizes voltage differences between component chassis, helping to eliminate potential ground loops.
  • Gemini Model 8 is a full 20A capable unit, featuring a C-19 (20A) IEC for maximum current carrying capacity.
  • Rugged construction
  • Dual-zone AC line filtering

NIC™ TECHNOLOGY

The NIC™ (Noise Isolation Chamber) is a patented technology that reduces high frequency power line noise.

NICs™ use a non-reactive ferroelectric substance that actually absorbs high frequency noise.  This reduces noise without any of the negatives associated with power filter coils, capacitors and transformers.

CCI™ NOISE REDUCTION

Traditional power conditioners are designed to block incoming noise from outside the home, but do not address the noise that is generated by the electronic components themselves. In fact, most conditioners reflect noise back into other components connected to the power conditioner. CCI™ (Component-to-Component Isolation) is one of the most significant but often overlooked aspects to power system performance. The CCI™ filter consists of a proprietary multi-stage filter that reduces electrical noise and interference generated by a component’s power supply.

CGS - Chassis Grounding System

The CGS (‌‌Chassis Grounding System) is an internal ground-buss that uses patented NIC™ technology to reduce ground plane noise. ‌‌CGS provides a common grounding point and extends the noise reduction capability of the power conditioner’s internal Noise Isolation Chambers to other electronic components. ‌‌CGS helps to minimize inter-component voltage differences between component chassis and may reduce the hum associated with ground loops while improving low-level resolution and clarity.

The system includes four terminals, that allows up to eight audio components to be connected.

We offer several models of CGC Ground Cables each made to your custom length and termination requirements.

Electromagnetic Breaker

Over-current protection is a requirement for today’s high current audio power distributors. The vast majority of manufacturers use an inexpensive thermal fuse or breaker. Both are specifically designed to heat up as the current level rises. This causes voltage drops, increased contact impedance, thermal noise, excessive heat generation and current limiting effects. There is a better solution — the hydraulic electromagnetic breaker that utilizes low-impedance relays and a sensing coil that reads the current level without heating up or limiting current. They can operate right up the to the maximum current level without heating up or limiting instantaneous current. They are rarely used in competitive products since they cost 10-20 times that of a common fuse or thermal breaker.

How to wire your power - an ideal system

Plug the Gemini Power Distributor into the wall using a Gamma XC ($677.98) power cord, and Gamma NR power cords ($) between the Everest and front-end components.

Your amps would plug directly into the second circuit with Shunyata's Gamma NR ($677.98) power cords. There are no current delivery restrictions of any kind within the Gemini. Instead, DTCD® (dynamic transient current delivery) is markedly improved across all outlets.

The NR PCs were primarily designed to power components connected to the power distributor to keep noise from the full-wave bridge rectifiers in components' power supplies from coming back out from the component, only to be distributed to "upstream" to source components, which are particularly sensitive to noise. It's AC, alternating current, so the current goes into the component, and also comes back out of the component, all at 50/60 Hz.

The largest contributor (if you measured the complete set of "noise factors" as the sums of squares of all the various noise components, for example) to a system's overall noise is not from the AC mains, but from the components themselves.

The XC (extra-current) PCs were primarily designed for to connect power distributors to the AC mains so as to provide the maximal current for the power distributor.
