Magico S5
The Magico S5 is a high-end loudspeaker known for its exceptional clarity, powerful bass, and ability to reveal intricate details in music. It achieves this through a combination of advanced driver technology, a meticulously designed enclosure, and a sophisticated crossover network. Key features include its Nano-Tec drivers with aluminum-honeycomb cores and graphene-reinforced carbon fiber skins, a heavily braced aluminum enclosure, and high-quality components in the crossover.
Sculpted enclosure
The newly designed curved-and-shaped aluminum cabinet—optimized using simulated 3D modeling to minimize internal resonances—maximizes stiffness while enabling optimal damping strategies. The front baffle is curved for minimal diffraction effects. Notably, the S5’s internal volume was increased by 31% versus the previous version. The larger bas cabinet enables the S5’s low-frequency response to plumb 5Hz lower—to 20Hz—while keeping the same sensitivity (88dB).
Nano-Tec Drivers:
Bass in the S5 is provided by a pair of 10” woofers. Each driver sports a 5” titanium voice coil and a Nano-Tec v.8 cone built into a third-generation chassis. This woofer has a huge copper cap and is capable of one half inch of linear movement.
The S5’s tweeter is based on the model used in the M Series. The S5’s 28mm tweeter uses a diamond-coated beryllium diaphragm. A neodymium-based motor system yields the lowest distortion possible today along with even greater power handling than previous S Series speakers. Careful FEA modeling allowed Magico to improve the mechanical and acoustical performance of the back chamber
Advanced Chassis Design:
A new generation of driver chassis, developed over three years, enhances both mechanical and acoustical parameters. This includes improved force distribution, better suspension, and a dual-post configuration for equalizing dynamic tensile wire forces.
Sealed Enclosure:
The S5 employs a sealed enclosure, minimizing distortion and diffraction effects. The enclosure is constructed from thick, extruded aluminum and features a curved front baffle to optimize diffraction.
Sophisticated Crossover:
The three-way crossover incorporates high-quality components, including Magico's custom-made resistors and updated coils, to minimize noise and improve coherence between the drivers.
Powerful Bass:
The S5's dual 10-inch woofers, with their Nano-Tec cones and powerful neodymium motor systems, are capable of producing deep, powerful, and accurate bass frequencies with minimal distortion.
Imaging and Soundstage:
The S5 excels at creating a believable and expansive soundstage, allowing listeners to hear the spatial relationships between instruments and vocals with clarity.

"The S5 is for people who actually want to know what is on the recording because they find this leads to the highest musical satisfaction. That sounds morally upright and laudable, but too few listeners have had the chance to actually hear what this level of speaker can do so they can make an informed decision.
At least at or above the S5 price level, you now have a choice to experience this level of transparency. This is why I think the S5 2024 qualifies as a breakthrough. It may be the lowest-priced speaker that delivers a coloration level this low when considered across the full frequency band and all the way from terminals to the brain (the technically-related S3 may do similar things for smaller listening rooms)"
