Moon 230HAD DAC/Preamp/Headphone Amp

It's a high-quality DAC

Fully asynchronous DAC with four (4) digital inputs (S/PDIF x 2, TosLink x 1 & USB x 1) allowing for use with virtually any digital source; Supports DSD64, DSD128, and DSD256 (USB input only); Supports PCM up to 24-bit/192kHz (all inputs) and 32-bit/384kHz (USB input only).

Use it as a pre-amp for powered speakers, or just add a power amp

Inputs include: 1 x RCA line input on the rear panel, 1 x single-ended on 1/8” jack located on the front panel, 1 x optical, 2 x coax, 1 x USB

Outputs include both fixed and variable single-ended line-level RCA stereo pairs

Moon utilizes a traditional high-quality motorized Alps volume potentiometer, known for its high quality. The 230HAD can be used as primary preamplifier/DACs in speaker-based hi-fi systems.  The 230HAD presents itself as the streamlined, ‘everything-you-need-and-nothing-you don’t’ desktop model that likely will be used primarily for headphone listening.

It is a high-quality headphone amplifier

The headphone connection is by ¼” TRS headphone jack. A pure analog amplifier with an oversized power supply using a toroidal transformer in conjunction with 8 stages of DC voltage regulation provides superb transparency and dynamics.

Reviews

"The 230HAD serves up a hearty, vigorous, and expressive sonic presentation that centers upon, and is built around a well-developed, open-sounding midrange. There is the sense, always, that the 230HAD is capturing the energy and vitality inherent in good recordings and conveying these qualities with appropriate (but never exaggerated) verve. There are excellent levels of midrange, upper midrange, and treble detail as well, though it is that overriding quality of ‘aliveness’ that consistently catches and holds the listener’s attention"

"I can give this amp a solid “buy” recommendation if it is in your financial sweet spot. Better amps cost a lot more, and the 230 sounds better than other amps at its price point"
